A while back there was a lot of chatter on this blog about men and more specifically, women drivers. Here's some proof to add more gas to that fire.
Its official: Women worse at parking than men, study shows
By David Menzies
As news goes, its about as earth-shattering as declaring that the Pope is Catholic or that theres an excess of saltwater in the Pacific Ocean. Nevertheless, a new study has revealed that women are worse at parking than men. (In case anyone thinks the fix is in, the scientist in charge of the study is female.)
The details: not only do women drivers typically take an average of 20 seconds longer to park their cars, but they still manage to do a poor job as theyre less likely to end up in the middle of the parking space compared to their male counterparts.
As part of a test, 65 drivers were asked to park an Audi A6 sedan in a standard-sized parking space.
Their maneuvers including head-on, reverse and parallel parking were timed and rated for accuracy. Each motorist was also judged by how far the vehicle was kept from the edges of the parking space.
Incredibly, even though the female volunteers were appreciably slower, researchers were nevertheless surprised to discover that the extra time didnt translate into a superior final result.Dr. Claudia Wolf of Ruhr University in Bochum, Germany, who led the study, said the research indeed confirmed previous findings. Namely, men have better co-ordination and spatial awareness than women. As well, men are more apt to take risks behind the wheel.
These prejudices exist and as a scientist I decided the find out if they are true or based on myth, she recently told the U.K.s Daily Mail. I don't think that feminism or the cause of women is in any way set back by these findings. It only proves what previous studies about the spatial differences between men and women have shown.
As well, Dr. Wolf was quick to point out that just because men are inherently better at parking vehicles, this doesnt mean males are the superior gender.
It is not as if there was a massive failing by women, she said. It is just about parking not the triumph of men over women.
Nevertheless, gentlemen, next time you see a member of the fairer sex struggling to maneuver into a parking spot, dont get angry. They just cant help themselves.

If it's proven by science, it has to be true. Looks like Sarpanch was right all along.
When news first struck about Haiti and what had happened there, I'm sure like many others I was compelled to ask the obvious question, what could I do to help? I looked at the charities involved in the Haitian relief effort, and noticed instantly the large number of Christian and Jewish aid groups, and even reading about Scientologists who were getting in on the charitable effort. When looking at the list though I couldn't help but wonder if we'd ever see any "Sikh" charities make the list, or hear about Sikhs making any sort of contribution to the effort. I suppose, because we see the world as a reflection of ourselves, I brushed away the idea of ever seeing any notable Sikh contribution to not only Haiti, but in general towards any global relief effort.
Fortunately I was surprised to learn that the Sikh community in BC had donated collectively $1.5 million. Almost triple what one of Toronto's top radio stations was able to raise in their own day long marathon. Impressive no doubt. Even more surprising was learning of the Singhs who were in Haiti under the United Sikhs banner, doing langar di seva, and realized that just because I wasn't able to take action that didn't mean our community wouldn't.
To that end, there's a great sense of pride in knowing that even more Sikhs from BC are currently heading down to Haiti to also take part and help out where they can. Japnaam Singh, Avneet Kaur, Ramneet Kaur, Manraaj Kaur, Sukhminder Singh and Sukhpreet Singh all plan on doing what they can to help out the Hatian people, indirectly also promoting Sikhi to the world. They've setup a blog (http:///www.haitiblog.ca) where we'll be able to follow them on their journey. Hopefully everyone can keep an eye out for 'em and likewise be inspired to help as they do. For those interested in heading out and being part of the front lines then drop an email to helphaiti@gnsg.ca, since they are currently putting together a second team that will also be heading out.

Football Sunday did not disappoint yesterday. For the first time in almost two decades the two best teams in the NFL will meet in the Superbowl and rightly so. The Colts did what they do best - throw the ball - and took over the game in the second half. Payton Manning proved once again that he is not only the best QB in the NFL but in my eyes, the best QB of all-time. Rex Ryan and the Jets need to conform to the new NFL and get a better passing game in the off-season if the Sanchize wants another run the playoffs next year.
The late game was easily one of the best games all year long. Well, at least it was for Saints and casual fans. As for the the Viking and Brett Favre fans, not so much. Favre proved once again that when he has to throw the ball more than he should, he will mess up. The law of averages always catches up to everybody.
I still don't get why in your right mind are you throwing the ball on 3rd down with 18seconds left in the game. Stupid decision by the coach and a stupider decision by the QB. Do what you been doing all year and just check the ball off to someone nearby and kick your FG. But it wasn't meant to be. In the end the better team won.
This setups what could be the most entertaining Superbowl ever. Two teams that love to pass the ball and can score in bunches. The top two QBs in the game this year going to head to head. But that's a conversation for another day. For now, let's enjoy in the glory of the Colts dominating, Saints winning and Brett Favre giving away another game.
Oh and one more thing from yesterday. The RAPTORS beat the Lakers! As bad as people say the Raptors are, we now have victories over some of the best teams in the league from LA, Dallas, San Antonio, Orlando and Cleveland. Biggups to Turk, for at least game, for coming thru in the clutch.
This is for all the brothers that went and got done. Because let's face it, y'all went and done changed. So this goes out for you, you, you, you, you and you.
I know it wasn't me, so it had to be you.
Falling from grace, former Akal Takhat Jatehdar Prof. Darshan Singh, has today been officially "removed" from the Sikh Panth and been declared, 'Tankhayia'. While many maybe jubilant at the decision considering the raagi's remarks regarding Amrit, and Dasam Pathsha's bani, one can't also help but to feel a little saddened to see how times have changed. From someone who at one point was looked upon as a leader in the Panth, especially in the 80's when times were tough, and as someone who sang the same bani that he later began to reject, then growing into to someone who spoke ill of the same Amrit that they once preached for Sangat to take, its always sad to see someone switch up their game like that.
While getting rid of plagues and cancers who wrought from within is always called for, it would also be nice to see similar level of action taken against those who in guise of Sikhi continue to rape and plunder against Sangat. That the Akal Takhat take allegations against any precharak reported of committing crimes as serious as the next and launched their own investigations into the matter, and in due course similarly punished these folk.
AKAL TAKHT SAHIB DECLARES RAGI A TANKHAYIA
Sri Amritsar Sahib - The five Singh Sahibans issued an edict from Sri Akal Takht Sahib declaring the controversial Ragi Darshan Singh a Tankhayia (apostate). The Ragi was sternly chastised for failing to appear at the apex Sikh Takht at 12 noon on December 5th of 2009 as required.
On November 17th, the Ragi was directed by Sri Akal Takht Sahib to appear before the five Singh Sahibans and provide explanation for the offending remarks he had made about Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji at a Rochester, New York gurdwara.
The directive by Sri Akal Takht Sahib also declared the Ragi as a Guru-Nindak who, due to ego and self-interest, failed to uphold the respect and maryada of the sacred Takht Sahib.
The Sri Akal Takht Sahib directive further stated that until the Ragi appears in person for atonement, all Sikh organizations, institutions, and Gurdwaras should not allow the Ragi to utilize their facilities.
The five Singh Sahibans also gave a final ultimatum to the heretic Ragi that if he does not abide by this directive and appear before the Takht before January 7th of 2010, further severe action would be taken against him according to Panthic norms and traditions.
With all the talk about female infanticide, spousal abuse, run away grooms, <continue endless list here>, it was refreshing to find and here about this project called the, Girl Effect.
Seems nice. Share and spread the news.
