Here's a clip from last weekends Jor Melaa that happened in Surrey, BC. The atmosphere seems pumping with the Sangat really into the match, creating for what seems to be an amazing atmosphere. What really impressed me with the whole thing was the reffing, which is usually one of the most sensitive areas in such competitions. I liked how the 3 refs around the edges were all active, and working together with everyone seeming to be actively judging the match. Although this doesn't necessarily eliminate missed calls or objectionable calls it does seem to reduce them, making for what would seem to be fairer matches, albeit longer ones.
The below match match pits, two of the current top Gatka players in North America, Sukhjinder and Teghbir Singh, both students of the late Charnjit Singh, against one another. Both have also participated in past Yudhs with Teghbir being the Yudh champion from 2004 while Sukhjinder impressed the Sangat this year by finishing first in the Kirpaan Demo, and fended of elimination against some of the top competitors, and his match against Jarnail was one for the ages.
Hopefully more videos from Jor Melaa will find there way online, likewise with videos from past Yudhs.
Hopefully we can see the rivalry grow and have a rematch of sorts at the next Yudh; which is slated to happen in the summer of 2007.

to tell u the truth, that was more sad to watch than anything else
an something needs to be done to make sure people block in these gatka tournaments, every year it seems that its turning into a match of who can hit the other half a secon before he gets hit. Every vaar either results in a saanjhaa vaar or a point, I dont think you ever see a block
and when someone actually tries blocking, like the harianvela singh did at yudh, he just gets screwed cuz the other guy gets one vaar in, and then the rest of the match is just saanjhaa vaars cuz the guys who is winning refuses to block.

First off, I’m pretty sure the Singh in the back talking was Daman Singh from Vancouver (another student of Charanjit Singh). Last I recall the first Yudh that Daman Singh entered he did pretty well, so I guess he DOES know what he’s talkin’ about.
Second off, all you Easterners need to chill the **** out because you know NOTHING..and i mean NOTHING about the character and shenanigans of this Sukhwinder. There’s definitely bad blood between those two competitors. Plus, the shot to Teghbirs face was dirty (in my opinion). You see Sukhwinder in T.O. for Yudh and now you’re all up his ass. Gimme a break. You didn’t know this kid until last summer and now you think he’s the Messiah?
Respect to Teghbir Singh! Sportmanship can go to hell.
Last Yudh when it was Ja vs Sukhjinder it was jokes, because everyone was pure cutting up and going against Sukhjinder and cheering for Ja, while those from the West were going to Sukhjinder. Then Sukhjinder goes to BC and everyone there is going against him talk about never having home court advantage.

To all who dont know Teghbir singh and sukhjinder singh have had beef for a long time. The fight was awesome. There were alot of harsh words exchanged during the fight that alot of ppl weren’t aware of, including with some of hte singhs in the audience.. Overall the fight was insane, the atmosphere was nutts, and the entertainment at the end of the show (allthough not all of it is shown here) was hilarous… although highly highly innappropriate of the singhs fighting. Both teghbir and sukhjinder need to get shit kicked so that they will learn to act their ages… i volunteer to do it !

teghbir and sukhjinder are both good gatka players and are both scandals, the question is who is the bigger scandal, i think we should give that trophy to teghbir as well.
it is good that they are maintaining shastar vidhiya and gurus roop and bana but do they live the life practically.
i thikn both of these individuals should remember that in the sangat there are little kids that look up to them. they should both be humble and avoiding swearin as it is not gurmat more importantly they should stay away from girls because seems like that is a big problem in bc

I dont see why people are upset, there were jakaras going on left right and centre, but you can’t do jakara 24/7. Theres nothing wrong with cheering inbetween jakaras, just as any sport competition event. And the reason there was sooo much cheering for teghbir was as the video was made by a kid from his akhara and the people sitting there was his entire akhara.
Yes the swearing by daman was bad, as it wasn’t needed but watever man….. overall the event was crazy goood, and was entertainment…. i give it double thumbs up (Y)(Y)
